Here are some swimming pool hacks that actually work and have been tried and tested by us.
So let’s say you on a really tight budget and your pool is looking a bit on the green side. Did you know that jik household bleach is actually liquid chlorine just with a different scent? Jik can also act as a shock treatment for your pool and it will also get rid of bacteria. The only downfall, and I say downfall as I have an outdoor pool, but it does not contain cyanuric acid. Cyanuric acid is the ingredient in chlorine which stops the suns UV rays from evaporating it. You will notice some chlorines stipulate ” Stabilized or Non Stabilized” now stabilized contains cyanuric acid where non stabilized does not. So it will not last that long in a pool exposed to sun. But all in all go check out the price of actual liquid chlorine, I mean this sells in South Africa for R150 for a 2l bottle where a person can buy a 5l jik for R50.
Ever wondered how to get the white chlorine stains off your mosaic tiles? Well, if you mix chlorine and pool acid together you will be amazed at the results. The only problem with this is it is extremely dangerous as it is mustard gas. It is hectic on your lungs and can burn your skin so take caution.
By putting a few tennis balls into your swimming pool, the balls felt absorbs oils, makeup and sunscreens which could leave a ring around the pool.
Are you battling to get small particles out your pool with a net? Well by using a stocking wrapped around your skimmer catch basket it is possible. This will catch ants and small things floating around which a net cannot get.
Looking for a cheap way to heat your swimming pool? by using black bags as a cover, the heat will attract to the bags and warm your water. Not very appealing but it does work. Another option is an old school swimming pool hacks which is taking 50mm soft pipe in rolls, and adding one end to your pools return multiport side and the other to the return jet of the pool side. You will need a few of each and place them on the roof of your house. Costs nothing and does work.
Now beside bacarbonate of soda been the best thing since sliced bread, it has over 100 uses. In a pool it can be used to clean tiles, coping and paving. It also can be used to up the alkalinity in the water which is a huge cost saver. And even a act as a stabilizer.
