Legal requirements for owning a pool
In South Africa, the law requires that swimming pool owners have a barrier in place to prevent unauthorized access by children. The National Building Regulations stipulate that the barrier must be at least 1.2 meters high, have self-closing and self-latching gates, and be free of gaps or holes that a child could use to climb or crawl through. Additionally, pool owners are required to register their pool with their local municipality and obtain a compliance certificate to ensure the pool meets all safety requirements.
