Has your pool pump stopped priming?
When we refer to pump priming we mean the water is not hitting the inside of the lid while the pump is running. Now this could mean that your pump is old and its time to buy a new one but before running out to go do so, check the following first.
- Check the weir vacuum lid is seated correctly and is 100% flat and under the plastic lock in grooves.
- Check the pumps lid and vacuum lid for any cracks
- Check the pumps O-ring is seated properly and is not worn out
- Try prime the pump manually by filling water in it
- Look for any wet patches on the ground from the weir to the pump. If you do notice wet patches then you have a leak on your suction line and will need to have it repaired.
- There may be a leak on the weir and if this is the case it will be extremely difficult to detect it if you do not know what you are looking for. In this case call a professional to assist
- How old is your pool pump? Remember a pool pump has a life of around 5 years sometimes they last a lot longer but in short term 5 years. The older the pump the less power it can produce.
