Why winter pools seldom turn green?
You may ask yourself ” why does your pool remain blue during winter but in summer turn green”?
This is because algae requires 10 – 15 hours of sunlight to start growing and it also requires a temperature of between 15,55 degrees Celsius and 26,66 degreed Celsius. Now in South Africa and I am referring specifically to Johannesburg, here we obtain on a good day only 11 hours of sunlight and our temperatures usually only get to 18 degrees and lower so we are still in the region of pools turning green but for those who reside in cities and towns which get lower temperatures and less sunlight they very seldom ever get a green pool during winter.
