Which pool lining is better?
There has been this debate for years and years now as to which lining is better. Fiberglass vs Marbelite? and the answer really boils down to personal preference honestly.
We list some of the pros and cons below and let you decide on whats best for you.
Marbelite
- Marbelite is a type of plaster which is applied onto the pools concrete shell
- It is usually applied about 5mm – 8mm in thickness
- Marbelite has a course and rough feel
- Colors available are White, Sky Blue and Black are your common colors and then there are around 50 other colors ranging from your silvers to just about any color you can think of from a company in SA called https://www.poseidonpoolplaster.co.za/Products-Colours/
- Lifespan is around 15 years if the pool has been looked after and mantained correctly
- Color does fades over the years
- Once the marbelite has worn down it starts leaving grey or black patches on the surface
- Quick to apply when resurfacing a pool ( 1 day application )
- Quick dry time so pool can almost be filled straight after application
- Wider variety when choosing mosaic tiles, basically any porcelain, marble, ceramic, glass, stone etc…
- Non slip surface
- Higher maintenance as algae attracts to marbelite
Fiberglass
- Lifespan is approximately 30 years if looked after correctly
- Color choices are Sky blue, Night blue, Black, Charcoal, White and any tinted shades with pigment you can find on the market such as cobalt blue which makes a night blue color
- Slippery surface
- Smooth sleek finish and feel
- Sharp objects not to be used in the pool as it can puncture or tear the lining
- Lower maintenance with regard to almost zero algae
- Big variety of tissue mosaic tiles to choose from
- Application time 3 days and an additional 4-5 days for curing till you can fill
- Increases the value of your property
