Can you run a standard pool pump on a solar system?

The answer to this question is yes you can however you will need a strong enough system for it to work.

Here is a breakdown for you:

  1. Solar Panels: 4 to 8 panels. For example, a 1kw pump running 8 hours usually needs around 1,200 to 1,500 watts of solar capacity.
  2. Inverter: A pure sine wave inverter is needed to convert the DC power from the panels into the AC power your pump uses.
  3. (VSD): Recommended to add to standard AC motors. It prevent the power surge that trips inverters when the pump turns on, and allows you to run the pump at lower, more efficient speeds.
  4. Batteries (Optional): If you want to run your pump at night or during heavy cloud cover, you will need a battery bank.
