What is a chemical lock?

The phrase “Chemical Lock”

A chemical lock is when you add chemicals to your pool and absolutely nothing happens. You then keep adding more and more in hopes that it will turn blue, but it never does and instead it goes an even darker green.

So, what is happening is the pool has been over stabilized, in plain English this means to many chemicals were added to the pool so no chemical can penetrate the barrier which the chemicals have created in the pool causing what we call "a chemical lock“ Imagine having a toilet with clingwrap under the seat, need I say more??? Well, this is the same thing that’s happening

There are 2 solutions to fix this they are:

Fill the pool with sand and build a nice seating area on top of it so you can drink black label in the sun and imagine yourself been at the beach….just kidding!

  1. Drain the pool halfway then top it up with ordinary tap water.
  2. Use a very good algaecide this method has never failed us and has always worked wonders in the worst of pools we have attended to. But it is not always 100% going to work it depends on how many chemicals were added to the pool, the time frame they were added, and which chemicals were added.
