Our Swimming Pool Troubleshooting Guide
How long should you run your swimming pool for?
- In summer months you should run your pool for between 6-8 hours
- In winter you can drop it to run between 4-6 hours
Is pool water bad for your garden?
Each person may have a different opinion on this but I work on facts rather then what everyone reads on google. I have been backwashing my pool into my garden for 10 years now, and the grass in that area is much greener and softer than any other grass in my yard. Pool water is not bad for your lawn but to much chlorine can harm your plants.
Pool timer not working
This is a really common issue with timers and personal opionion I much prefer the wifi timer which you control via your phone. Its just less hassle and easier to use. But here are some causes:
- The timer may have lost the time and is switching on at a different hour
- Timer may be faulty – By this I mean normal analogue timers sometimes last a month it is luck of the draw.
- Connection from the breaker to the timer may be faulty
- Pump wire to timer may be faulty
- Pump may be faulty
How Often Should You Test Pool pH levels?
How long is a piece of string? One cannot say because your pool water’s pH changes constantly due to water and chemical evaporation, rain, and things added by people which have been in your pool such as sunscreen and sweat. Use a pH test strip or your pool test kit to check the pH levels daily so you can adjust quickly and keep your pH within the ideal range. One suggests twice a day been ok anything more then that well you would be considered an obsessive compulsive, and you seriously need to get a life.
What Happens If Your Pool pH Is Too High?
Pool pH that is too high (above 7.8) can cause the following:
- High Alkaline
- Cloudy pool water
- Decreased ability for chlorine to kill germs
- Damage to a pool’s vinyl liner
- Dry, itchy skin, rashes and brittle hair
- Mineral scaling inside your pipes, which can reduce circulation and put strain your pump.
What Happens If Your Pool pH Is Too Low?
When your pool pH level is too low (below 7.2) you can experience the following:
- Irritated eyes and mucous membranes of swimmers
- Damage or dimpling of your pool’s plaster finish
- Corroded metal parts such as ladders or diving board bases
- Corroded pumps and mechanical systems Chlorine instability and overuse
- High Acid
How to calculate pool volume
Length: Measure the longest side of the pool (in feet or meters).
Width: Measure the shortest side of the pool (in feet or meters).
Average Depth:
If your pool has a constant depth, measure the depth at any point.
If your pool has a variable depth (like a shallow end and a deep end), measure the depth at both ends and take the average.
Average Depth Calculation: (Shallow End Depth + Deep End Depth) / 2
Example: If the shallow end is 3 feet deep and the deep end is 8 feet deep, the average depth is 3 + 8 / 2 = 5.5 feet
