Can a cracked pool be repaired? The answer to this question depends on 3 factors:
- Which direction is the crack running? vertical or horizontal? Now under normal circumstances a vertical crack is fixable but a horizontal crack could indicate that there is a possibility of earth shiftment, which in many cases if the pool company you hired knows what they are doing, would be able to identify this and fix the issue.
2. How deep is the actual crack? Usually the cracks you see are only surface cracks but when they go through the pools lining into the actual foundation of the pool, then as mentioned above you need to understand the crack and know what you are doing.
3. What type of lining the pool has marbelite or fiberglass? Most pools with a fiberglass lining can be repaired by draining the pool and doing a fiberglass patch repair with a matching top coat. This method applies only if the crack has not gone through the foundation of the the pool and the pool is not losing water. Most marbelite pools can be repaired under water if the cracks are surface cracks and the pool is not losing water. If the pool is losing water and the crack is severe then in most cases it can be repaired by draining the pool and fixing as required. There have been cases where the cracks are so severe that it would cost to much to actually repair it and the owner has opted to build a smaller pool in a different location but the pool company should be able to advise you on this should they know what they are doing.
