Pool pump just makes a humming noise
If you turn your power on for the pump to run and nothing happens but you hear a humming or buzzing sound then chances are the pump has seized or you could just need to replace the capacitor.
What causes this? The most common cause is to much corrosion built up on the shaft which causes the propeller to jam, the pump then continues to try turn but overheats or ceases due to this.
If it is capacitor then usually fair wear and tear is normal as capasitors these days only last a few months.
The easiest way to check which one it is, is to see on the little square cover at the back of the pump if there are any signs of wires been burned. If a capasitor has gone it usually explodes so the square cover will almost always show signs of been slightly burned.
If the bearing has seized then you will not be able to turn the pumps propella at the rear side of the pump. This will mean send your pump into a professional company as replacing bearings on a pump is not as easy as it seems without the right tools.
