Lets list some common causes of when water sprays out of pump lid :

  • First off its recommended that you open the sand filter up and check to see if the breather pipe is not blocked. This is a common mistake made when changing filter sand as a breather pipe is meant to be closed while changing sand to avoid it from going into the pipe. This will cause the back shoot of pressure. If you not sure what a breather pipe is go to your local pool shop and they will assist you or contact us and we will help you too.

  • Another thing to check would be the pumps O-ring as if this is worn you can bet you will have a back shoot of pressure. This is not common as normally a pump with a worn O-ring would not prime.

  • Distance and gravity play a big part in this problem. For instance if you run a 1.1kw pump on a small pool with 1 return outlet then you can bet it will happen. Another example is if your pump is below the pools level and within a 2m range you might also get this problem.

But to be honest with you stick with the first explanation as this is 99% of the time the actual cause when water sprays out of pump lid.
